Why Is More Website Traffic the Wrong Goal? Here's What Actually Gets You Customers.
The number one question I get is "Tom, how do I get more traffic to my website?"
And I finally have to say it out loud... that's the wrong question!
How can that be?
Think of it like this. Traffic is just strangers walking past your window, peering through the glass.
What you actually want is the RIGHT person walking IN, someone who already trusts you, is half-sold, because they read something about you and thought "yep, these are my people." Just one of those is worth fifty tire-kickers.
If your phone went quiet, your website probably isn't broken.
Here's the thing that nobody tells you. If your website used to ring the phone and lately it's gone quiet, nothing fell off. The internet just changed underneath it while it stood still. (Ask me how I know.)
People don't Google-and-scroll the 10 blue links like they used to.
Now they ask ChatGPT, or Perplexity, or that AI answer box parked at the top of Google, and they automatically believe that one answer, like it was their best friend referring them.
So where does that answer come from? It gets built out of whatever's written on your website that the AI thinks is clear enough to trust.
But if your site says the same stuff as everybody else ("committed to quality and exceptional customer service"... blah, blah...), the AI's got nothing unique to grab. So it grabs somebody else.
You're not bad. You're just skipped. It happened to us over the course of two months!
The job isn't "build a website" anymore
Since 1998, people hired us to "build a website."
The real truth is, that's not really the job anymore. The job is getting you FOUND.
Found by the right people, already trusting you because they heard your real story. And your website is where that happens. Not facebook, not instagram, not tiktok, but YOUR WEBSITE.
So we took our own medicine
We rebuilt AggielandWebsiteDesign.com from the ground up around this exact idea. Plain talk, our real story, and all the behind-the-scenes stuff that lets people AND machines actually read it. Went live July 7, 2026!
Fun fact…Google indexed some of the new pages almost immediately (it knew our pricing the next morning, which was weird, but great!). ChatGPT hasn't figured it out yet as of this writing, but it will. These things run on a delay, which is why waiting is not an option.
I'll report back in a few months with the results, good or bad.
The part that actually does the work
Here's the deal. The secret isn't fancy code. It's the CONTENT, ie the WORDS. Your real story, written plain, sounding like you and not like every other site in your industry.
That is exactly what we do. It's called Tell Your Business Story. Simply put, a 30-minute conversation, you do the talking, we do the writing, and it works on the website you already have. No rebuild required. Still $495. Does it work? Absolutely, and we have the proof (more on that soon).
Try this yourself (free, takes 60 seconds)
Pull up ChatGPT or Claude or Perplexity or Google and ask it something like "who is the best [your industry] company in [your town]?" and see if it mentions you.
Yes? Is the info right? FANTASTIC!
If not, or the information is butchered (at one point ChatGPT had us selling websites for $15k!), then there is work to be done.
If you tried it and cringed, I'd genuinely like to hear what it said. Email me at [email protected] or call/text 979-217-1544. The cringers are honestly my favorites!
